Buddha Quotes

To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.

Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.

You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.

No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.

To be idle is a short road to death and to be diligent is a way of life; foolish people are idle, wise people are diligent.

When one has the feeling of dislike for evil, when one feels tranquil, one finds pleasure in listening to good teachings; when one has these feelings and appreciates them, one is free of fear.

What is the appropriate behavior for a man or a woman in the midst of this world, where each person is clinging to his piece of debris? What's the proper salutation between people as they pass each other in this flood?

To live a pure unselfish life, one must count nothing as one's own in the midst of abundance.

All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?

The only real failure in life is not to be true to the best one knows.

“1. Accept everything just the way it is.

2. Do not seek pleasure for its own sake.

3. Do not, under any circumstances, depend on a partial feeling.

4. Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world.

5. Be detached from desire your whole life long.

6. Do not regret what you have done.

7. Never be jealous.

8. Never let yourself be saddened by a separation.

9. Resentment and complaint are appropriate neither for oneself nor others.

10. Do not let yourself be guided by the feeling of lust or love.

11. In all things have no preferences.

12. Be indifferent to where you live.

13. Do not pursue the taste of good food.

14. Do not hold on to possessions you no longer need.

15. Do not act following customary beliefs.

16. Do not collect weapons or practice with weapons beyond what is useful.

17. Do not fear death.

18. Do not seek to possess either goods or fiefs for your old age.

19. Respect Buddha and the gods without counting on their help.

20. You may abandon your own body but you must preserve your honour.

21. Never stray from the Way.”

Mala beads explained

A Japa mala or mala (Sanskrit:माला; mālā, meaning garland is a set of beads commonly used by Hindus and Buddhists. Malas are used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra or the name or names of a deity. This practice is known in Sanskrit as japa. Malas are typically made with 18, 27, 54 or 108 beads. In Tibetan Buddhism, traditionally malas of 108 beads are used. Some practitioners use malas of 21 or 28 beads for doing prostrations. Doing one 108-bead mala counts as the 108 worldly sins in Buddhist doctrine. Malas are mainly used to count mantras. These mantras can be recited for different purposes linked to working with mind. The material used to make the beads can vary according to the purpose of the mantras used. Some beads can be used for all purposes and all kinds of mantras. These beads can be made from the wood of the Bodhi tree (Ficus religiosa), or from 'Bodhi seeds', which come from the Rudraksha (Elaeocarpus ganitrus) and not the Bodhi tree. Another general-purpose mala is made from rattan seeds (Calamus Arecaceae) , the beads themselves called 'Moon and Stars' by Tibetans, and variously called 'lotus root', 'lotus seed' and 'linden nut' by various retailers. The bead itself is very hard and dense, ivory coloured (which gradually turns a deep golden brown with long use), and has small holes (moons) and tiny black dots (stars) covering its surface. Pacifying mantras should be recited using white colored malas. Materials such as crystal, pearl, shell/conch or mother of pearl are preferable. These are said to purify the mind and clear away obstacles like illness, bad karma and mental disturbances. Using pearls is not practical however, as repeated use will destroy their iridescent layer. Most often pearl malas are used for showing off or 'Dharma jewelry'. Increasing mantras should be recited using malas of gold, silver, copper and amber. The mantras counted on these can "serve to increase life span, knowledge and merit." Mantras for magnetizing should be recited using malas made of saffron, lotus seed, sandalwood, or other forms of wood including elm wood, peach wood, and rosewood. However, it is said the most effective is made of Mediterranean oxblood coral, which, due to a ban on harvesting, is now very rare and expensive. Mantras to tame by forceful means should be recited using malas made of Rudraksha beads or bone. Reciting mantras with this kind of mala is said to tame others, but with the motivation to unselfishly to help other sentient beings.[3] Malas to tame by forceful means or subdue harmful energies, such as "extremely malicious spirits, or general afflictions", are made from Rudraksha seeds, or even human bones, with 108 beads on the string. It is said that only a person that is motivated by great compassion for all beings, including those they try to tame, can do this.[3] The mala string should be composed of three, five or nine threads, symbolizing the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), the five Dhyani Buddhas (Vairocana, Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, Amoghasiddhi) and their wisdoms or the nine yanas or Buddha Vajradhara and eight Bodhisattvas. The large main bead, called the Guru bead, symbolizes the Guru, from whom one has received the mantra one is reciting. It is usually recommended that there be three vertical beads in decreasing size at this point: one white (Nirmanakaya) one red (Sambhogakaya) and one blue (Dharmakaya), or enlightened body, speech and mind. Usage Mantras are typically repeated hundreds or even thousands of times. The mala is used so that one can focus on the meaning or sound of the mantra rather than counting its repetitions.[citation needed] One repetition is usually said for each bead while turning the thumb clockwise around each bead, though some traditions or practices may call for counterclockwise motion or specific hand and finger usage. When arriving at the Guru bead, both Hindus and Buddhists traditionally turn the mala around and then go back in the opposing direction. Within the Buddhist tradition, this repetition of the beads serves to remind practitioners of the teaching that it is possible to break the cycle of birth and death. If more than 108 repetitions are to be done, then sometimes in Tibetan traditions grains of rice are counted out before the chanting begins and one grain is placed in a bowl for each 108 repetitions.[citation needed] Each time a full mala of repetitions has been completed, one grain of rice is removed from the bowl. Many Tibetan Buddhists have bell and dorje counters (a short string of ten beads, usually silver, with a bell or dorje at the bottom), the dorje counter used to count each round of 100, and the bell counter to count 1,000 mantras per bead. These counters are placed at different points on the mala depending on tradition, sometimes at the 10th, 21st or 25th bead from the Guru bead. Traditionally, one begins the mala in the direction of the dorje (skillful means) proceeding on to the bell (wisdom) with each round. A 'bhum' counter, often a small brass or silver clasp in the shape of a jewel or wheel, is used to count 10,000 repetitions, and is moved forward between the main beads of the mala, starting at the Guru bead, with each accumulation of 10,000.

This is aimed at the stupid bitch that threatened me on facebook

One Question... when have you ever had to sacrifice anything in your sweet little life?? I lost everything.... every single thing that was important to me cos some user decided it'd be fun to take what was mine!!!! Do NOT assume that you can judge me ... cos there isn't a level low enough I could possibly stoop to.... At the age of 41 I thought I had life pretty much sorted.... and then you start this bullshit again.... Ive been beaten up, battered and abused sold down the river more than once .... Last time I stopped because I was asked to leave it....What makes you think I can be stopped this time.... ???? .. . and the best you can do is come at me on Facebook.... REALLY???? I cant go to hell ... cos Satan still got that restraining order against me .... So I'm figuring I'm gonna stay right here.... Just because it winds you the hell up... Bring it on... hit me with your best shot... Fact is I did nothing the last time ... aint done nothing this time either.... I don't say much... I don't have to.... I refuse to defend myself when Ive done nothing wrong.... And I wouldn't lower myself to having a battle of wits with someone who is completely unarmed... You think you are better than me, at least I don't lie to the people I profess to care about. I don't accuse them of shit they haven't done, and I certainly wouldn't go screaming abuse at them or their friends on Facebook... What age are you? 7 years ago... I told you, you were lucky to have him.. I told you he was a mate and that you needed to go take a long hard look in the mirror before you lost him completely ... I guess you didn't take my advice. Don't come at me issuing threats because you pushed him away .... Don't call me names when all I've done is be there for the guy.... don't you dare accuse me of trying anything. Blame me all you want.. I find it hilarious... Call me whatever you like... I've been called worse and blamed for a hell of a lot more that I actually did.... Sit there and assume shit about me, because I guarantee the stuff you think you know... Is probably more exciting than my life has been for a long time... Fact is if you perceive me as a threat from 18000 miles away... Then there's something wrong with you. If making yourself look guilty.... Was your intention then you chose the right place to do it... Because the one that starts the shouting and making the allegations is usually the one that's got something to hide ... TIRED OF YOUR BRAND OF BULLSHIT!

Venting some anger

DANNY AMIET
People like you sit there and call others names, People like you put other people in boxes and label them as unstable, lazy blah Blah blah FUCKING BLAH ...
But when someone dares call you out for the SELF CENTERED SHALLOW CONCEITED TWO FACED PRICK YOU REALLY ARE... You start playing the victim and run away ...
Get my daughter under control ... Darlin shes twice the man you are and she's female!!

Shes got more sense in her pinky than you will ever have and like me, she doesn't lie, she says it as she sees it.... When she called you a fucking idiot last night ... she hit the nail square on the head....

I said I'd moved on to protect myself... to try and ease your guilt.... What I ended up doing was making myself feel small and bottling up a whole lot of rage and hurt... I was playing nice....and you threw it back in my face repeatedly ....

YOU CAN ONLY TAKE SO MUCH ABUSE OFF PEOPLE AND EVENTUALLY YOU TURN... all I did was be honest, instead of hiding it... you couldn't handle that... NOT MY PROBLEM.... IRC is not a popularity contest and I don't give a fuck if people like me or not... THE SOONER YOU GET THAT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL THE BETTER....

FACT IS EVERYTHING I SAID TO YOU LAST NIGHT WAS CALLED FOR .. EVERY WORD WAS NECESSARY.... I don't think for one second that you are smart enough to learn from it ... DUMB FUCKS USUALLY DON'T .... But it made me feel so much better ....
I WON'T RUN AND HIDE ANYMORE.... Bit of advice either play on my nice side... or suffer the consequences ... Its CUNTS like you that made me this way... DEAL WITH IT!

All I'm asking is keep my kids out of it, stop acting like a three year old and realize that if you call my kids names and involve them in shit i will react... Tommy is my son and we have been through hell to get where we are .. I'm not gonna go into detail but we both learned from it and weather you like it or not Tommy loyalty is to the woman who gave him life ... you have no right to interfere with that .. Tommy may not be the brightest but he is my son. Courtney may not have all the skills required but she is my girl and she does NOT lie

STOP PLAYING SILLY MIND GAMES.... I put you in the INVISIBLE BOX ...Stay there ... I know you think you have a right to an opinion on my life, I realize that you think your opinion matters... FACT IS IT STOPPED MATTERING A LONG TIME AGO.....If my daughter wants a tattoo I'll sign the form and give consent, I cant say no I have 3 soon to be 4 ... But shes a teenager so she will change her mind again like shes always done ... Just go back to ignoring me and I'll continue to ignore you....

HOW TO CONTACT AND COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SPIRIT GUIDE!
1. Believe in them. They believe in you! This is one of the first things they told me when I first began to communicate with them.
2. Set your intention to have a working relationship with your spirit advisors. Intention is everything. Be firm with yourself and don’t let your left brain (which doesn’t understand this stuff and doesn’t have a baseline to compare it to) talk you out of your ability to converse with your Spirit Guides. Your left brain will tell you that it’s nonsense and perhaps dangerous. “You are talking to yourself, silly”, it may say, “and if you keep this up, they will find a padded cell for you.” There is a part of yourself that may be fearful of loosing touch with your reality. Don’t worry, you won’t. Just as my own Spirit Guide, Pat, once told me (through a psychic who was channeling for me), “You are thinking you are loosing your marbles, but you are really just finding them.” Contrary to those things that you read and see about mental institutions, hearing voices does not mean you are crazy. It’s the most natural thing in the world. You talk to yourself all the time. You know this is true if you are being totally honest. While you’re at it, why not let the Spirit Guides in on the communication?
3. Unplug from the third dimension. The third dimension is a common term for the mundane reality – the everyday Earthly world. Now, I know that sounds contrary to what I said about being able to speak to your Spirit Guides anytime, anywhere. However, one has to start someplace and the beginning point is in having a quiet mind. This helps you with discernment. Quiet is needed at first to be able to clearly differentiate your thoughts from Spirit communication. Once you discern which is which, you can go to the level of hearing them anywhere, anytime.
Spirit Guides communicate in many ways, not just through speaking in your mind, as you will read here later on.
For now, I will use the example of hearing them since it makes things simpler. You unplug from the third dimension by quieting the mind and the best way to do this is through meditation.
4. Hold on! I know that people resist meditation like it’s the plague, but it really is nothing more than quieting the mind. The best way to do that is to unplug from your normal routine. Find a quiet place in nature or literally anyplace where you won’t be distracted.
Simply sit quietly. Is that all? Yes, essentially that’s it. What if I can’t sit, you say? Then anything that takes you out of your normal routine and relaxes you qualifies. Some ideas are: walking, gardening, bicycling, looking at the sunset, painting and so forth. The idea is to unplug and relax and get as quiet as you can.

5. Don’t worry if your mind won’t shut up. (Please excuse my bluntness.) Eventually, the mind will quiet—trust me. Here is where the intention part comes in. Many people stop at this point and give up, lamenting that their mind won’t be still. Persevere! No matter what! Set aside a quiet time each day or more than once a day if you are REALLY serious about this. Remember, your Spirit Guides are ready to help you and are looking forward to this relationship. They will help you clear your schedule and guide you to ways to ease your mind. Work toward the goal of sitting quietly several times a day. You may need to engage in that gardening or walking first, but then afterward sit quietly for 5 minutes just paying attention to your breath. Yes, the mind will be active (some days more than others) but eventually you will find that there is a GAP between your thoughts and that’s where your Spirit Guides will begin to say hello.
Just call your mind back to the breath—and do this for the full quiet time.
No frustration allowed. Be patient and loving with yourself in the process. Often times, people hear their name being called while at this first stage of spirit communication.
Quiet times once a day is good, two times a day is very good and three times a day is excellent!
6. When your mind quiets and you begin to feel that there are gaps between the thoughts, you can start to communicate. Yes, it may take some practice to get to the place of being aware that a gap exists in the first place (our minds can be like monkeys!), but you will get there, I promise. Sometimes it takes weeks or months, but don’t give up! Remember, your Spirit Guides really want to connect with you as much as you want to have the connection with them. Here are some ideas for how you may like to begin to dialogue with your Spirit Guides: a) Ask one Spirit Guide to give you a name b) Ask what they would like most for you to know at this time c) Ask any question that is on your mind.
7. Trust! This one is a biggie! The first answer, vision, feeling or insight that comes to your mind in reply is the right one! (Exception--See number 11. below.)
The most significant part of this process is accepting, without doubt, the first thing that comes to your mind. Just like the way the school teachers tell you about
test-taking, the first answer is usually the right one—the same thing applies here. You may like to get a notepad and pen and have it handy to write down what comes.
After all, that is exactly how the book, Conversations with God, was written! Writing and telepathic communication naturally go hand-in-hand.
8. If the answer doesn’t come immediately, no worries. That just means that it’s time to practice being aware and alert. Spirit Guides often get answers and communications to us in the most unique ways. They are actually pretty creative and have a wonderful sense of humor to boot! They will find the most perfect way to communicate with YOU. It is different for everyone depending on what their most open pathways of acceptance are at any given time.
If you don’t get the answer to your question immediately after you ask it, pay attention for the next few hours or days. Watch for answers everywhere around you--this is called being awake. The answer to your question may be on the bumper sticker of the car just ahead of you in traffic. Or it may come through the mouth of a friend, neighbor or a complete stranger for that matter. You may even hear the answer to your question in a song that comes on the radio. How will you know? You will. Trust me, you will. Every fiber of your being will shout, “That’s it! That’s the answer!” and there will be no doubt about it. Just remain open to the synchronicities in your life and you will see Spirit Guide magic all around you.

9. Synchronicities or telepathic communication not your cup of tea? Try a pendulum. You can make one easily with a fishing weight and some fishing string. Make it about 12 to 18 inches long, rest your elbow on the table, ask it to swing one way for yes and another way to indicate no, and you have programmed it. Your Spirit Guides will work with your subconscious and super-conscious mind to help guide the tiny nerves in your fingers (even though you will swear you are not moving it!) to indicate the yes or no response you are looking for. You can even use a pendulum over a map to indicate where to move/relocate. Use your imagination and you can find a thousand ways to use a pendulum.
HINT: don’t be surprised that when you are using the pendulum you suddenly have a flash of knowing or hear your Spirit Guide speak to you! Funny how those things work! (Using a pendulum is one way to quiet the mind and then whaah-la.)
10. Will the voice I hear be loud and booming? This is another misnomer. While sometimes it can be, for the most part, listen for the voice of your Spirit Guide to be like a whisper in your mind. Listen intently, but don’t strain. If you chase the answer, it will usually elude you. Let the answer and the voice of your Spirit Guides come to you gently, while you breath in and out deeply, allowing yourself to relax. Listen as you would to a dear friend, for that is what your Spirit Guides are!
11. Watch for repetition. I lovingly call this being held hostage by Spirit Guides. When the same word or phrase or feeling is repeated over and over and over again—it’s a pretty sure sign that this is your Spirit Guides trying to get through!
